Fundamentally however the internet is not a TV station or a newspaper. It's an organic creation of millions of ordinary people. Wikipedia, blogs, MySpace and YouTube are all explosions of content which live through the creativity and connections between us.

These statistics are numbing, but there is a silver lining. These terrible problems can be solved. Did you know that the World Bank estimates that extending universal primary school education to every child in the world would cost only $10-15 billion dollars a year? Giving every person in the world access to basic water and sanitation would cost only $30 Billion. In 2006 ~15 Billion dollars was spent on internet advertising. If ripple had as many users as MySpace, we could raise up to $2 billion a year. Now we aren't that ambitious, but we can start making a difference.
